Hi

Does anyone have any guidance or experience working with Sainsbury's in the UK? i.e. specific retailer audit requirements/COPs

Thanks

John

Yes, if you're a direct supplier you should have access to their online portal.  If you're supplying through someone else then you need to ask them.

In some cases their requirements are up there with M&S and often beyond, other areas, they almost completely ignore.  I've found the audits to be quite relaxed and sensible though but I know others haven't.  The best thing is to challenge the requirements with your technologist in advance of the audit if you disagree with the clauses.  There are some odd ones e.g. needing to wear specific overalls when cutting or drilling in engineering areas even if they're very well segregated from production areas.

Thanks for your feedback - a friend in the industry (fruit) is awaiting to hear back regarding a recent tender. Do JS have their own standard that they audit against?

They don't have a single standard but they do have a lot of COPs so a bit like M&S in that way (although M&S look like they're changing.)  The COPs are reasonably set out, they do a section which is a table, I think intended for people on site to record their findings against each clause.  That's fine if you just supply JS not so good if you supply everybody.  Why can't people set out their standards like Morrisons?  Oh it would be so nice...

In any case, good luck.  Everybody is going through this with JS right now.  IME they don't demand 100% compliance from day 1 but if you say you'll work through the COPs over a year they've been pretty open to it but it may depend on the technologist and if you have any problems.
