Hello,

If meat is from a federal facility and packaged there- and I want to ship it between provinces in Canada.

Do I need to have a license to do this? Or do I only need to follow these rules?

"Interprovincial Requirements

If you wish to ship a domestically produced processed food product interprovincially, please ensure that the following points are respected:

  1. Processing Establishment Registration with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
  2. Minimum Grade or Standard of IdentityFootnote 1
  3. Prescribed ContainersFootnote 1
  4. Correct LabellingFootnote 1
  5. Health and Safety Requirements as set out in the pertinent regulations"

Thank you,

Hi Charlie............are you brokering the meat or are you the sender?

Hi Charlie............are you brokering the meat or are you the sender?

are you at a federally registered facility?

Hi Scampi

I would be the sender. Meat will be packaged and butchered through a separate company at different location.

If I want to ship this meat out of the province do I need a permit or license? Also wondering if I can store provincial and federal meat in the same warehouse (not shipping the provincial out of the province- just federal)

I am not federally registered yet. I am in the works of starting a business and trying to get information. I will not be packaging labelling or butchering any of the products just storing them at my facility. Do I need to be federally registered as well?

Thank you for your help
Charles

The short answer is yes. You will need to be federally registered as the inter provincial currently is handled the same as an export out of country. There are new rules, Safe Food For Canadians coming out this spring....lots of information that will help you. Moving forward you will need a license, not a federal establishment number and will have to have a preventative control plan (a simplified version of HACCP) in place

Yes, you can store them together, but then you will have OMAFRA (ontario) and CFIA checking up on you from time to time
