Why was Decision Tree method changed in ISO 22000?

The CCP idenitification is same in ISO 22000 also, using a Decsision Tree. Except that aprat from CCP , you also need to identify oPRP while flowing through Descion Tree

Has anyone drawn this decision tree they would be willing to post?

I find the decision tree method to be awkward to use with the questions taking you around in circles .. so to speak !!

I find that the CCP determination can easily be arrived at by using a more direct approach.
The attached form 7 may be more appropriate for you.

I admire the determination in yr form but if this is "easier" I really sympathise with people using the alternative options.
(should add that am not yet a user of I22k)

Dear Lorne,

I agree the Codex Decision Tree may appear silly and rediculous at times but ISO 22K specifically requires us to integrate the principles of the HACCP system and application steps that were developed by the Codex Alimentarius Commission.

Therefore, by using FMEA as a singular risk assessment approach w/o the support of the Codex HACCP Principles and steps, can this be considered meeting to the requirements of the standard.

Certainly be much easier work if the answer is yes.

You can identify most of the questions of the decision tree in section 7.4 of the standard.

I'm not agree with this method (Form 7: Hazard Analysis and CCP Determination Worksheet) , because you do:
1. Determination the step's hazards,
2. Assessment the hazards,
3. Based on Risk Assessment, the Process Step is a CCP or is controlled with a PRP/RAP or OPRP.
But in accordance with ISO 22K requirements in 7.4 you should:
1. Determination the step's hazards,
2. Assessment the hazards,
3. Based on the hazard assessment, an appropriate combination of control measures shall be selected,
4. The control measures selected shall be assessed and then categorized as to whether they need to be managed through OPRP or by the HACCP plan.
The difference is that in Codex Decision Tree or in this attached form, the result of hazard assessment determines CCP, but in 22K determines control measures that by a new form of Decision Tree , should be assessed, then the results of this control measures assessment determines CCP and how management of them.

This is from the Codex:

"The intent of the HACCP system is to focus control at Critical Control Points (CCPs). Redesign of the operation should be considered if a hazard which must be controlled is identified but no CCPs are found."

Now with 22000 there are 2 different control measurements
1.- CCP (HACCP Plan)
2.- oPRP's


The first one has defined critical limits, the second one no. see decistion tree in ISO/TS-22004.
