Hi all,

We are a packaging factory that produce packings for tobacco and food sector. Customer sends us product design and we print, cut, slit, fold and make final packaging product. We had an SQP (Supplier Qualification Programme) audit from one of our customers. We have HACCP based process risk assessment but they also demand Product based risk assessment.

Their SQP standart asks like below:

2.2.1.  Does the company establish a product risk assessment for each group or a group of similar products e.f., FMEA?

2.2.2.  Does the product risk assessment determine following aspects which have an effect on product safety and legality?

2.2.2.1. User types (e.g. New born, young children, vulnerable people i.e., elderly, disabilities)
2.2.2.2. Product use (e.g. Behaviour, durability, user awareness, information and advice)

2.2.3.  Does the product risk assessment determine the following?

2.2.3.1. Possible Hazard/Risk identification (eg. Chemical, physical, regulatory)
2.2.3.2. Risk level for each identified hazard/risk (eg. Severe, high, moderate, slight)
2.2.3.3. Whether the risk is acceptable considering the probability or likehood and the severity and potential consequences of the      effects on consumer safety (e.g. not acceptable, review&approve, acceptable)

Do you have any example or ideas about how this needs to be done?

Thanks in advance,
Regards,

All of the above should have been covered during your HACCP plan preparation during the hazard analysis. If you haven't yet done that, I would start there. If your hazard analysis wasn't fully completed, then you HACCP plans subsequentsteps are not correct. All of you incoming materials should be included in your hazard analysis

Hi duskdiyebiri,

So in addition to your process based risk assessment your packaging should be risk assessed for each type of food to be packed and intended use, such as is the food going to be microwaved in the packaging.

Kind regards,

Tony

thanks for the comments.

"packaging should be risk assessed for each type of food to be packed and intended use, such as is the food going to be microwaved in the packaging." that's a good idea. My HACCP plan doesn't have this.

If you have more ideas like this please feel free to share. I need to develop my HACCP plan I think.
