Is SALSA a GFSI recognised standard?

Started by , Apr 18 2018 08:18 AM

I would say probably not.  Here is the GFSI website: https://www.mygfsi.c...programmes.html

Then again, it says SQF is still at Version 7.2 so maybe they don't update too often?

Is SALSA a GFSI recognised standard?, we have asked a SALSA supplier for a traceability and they have said they do not need to do a separate one as SALSA has already tested this, just wanted some clarification if anyone can help please? We are a BRC site

Thanks

Jimmy

Hi Jimmy

it looks like there was some discussions around SALSA previously on the forum and it doesn't appear that it is considered a GFSI scheme (hopefully these links work)

Hi all. SALSA is definitely not a GFSI benchmarked standard.

Hi Jimmy

As already stated Salsa is not GFSI recognised.

Be careful regarding the checking of traceability in the Salsa audit.

BRC is typically 2 days a Salsa audit is 4 hours

The audit does not require a traceability exercise to be carried out during the audit but instead the auditor needs to see evidence that a traceability is possible.

I normally want to see details of an exercise that has been conducted but the details is no where near the level of a BRC trace exercise

If you are looking at supplier approval then I would want to see evidence of a traceability exercise and would not rely on "Salsa says its ok"

if the supplier says that is confidential then I would ask them to trace a specific batch they have supplied to you

Despite the Salsa Standard being non-GFSI recognised, IIRC an appropriate Salsa 3rd party audit of a raw material Supplier  is accepted by BRC with respect to the Supplier being categorised as Low/High Risk.within clause 3.5.1.2

Based on previous threads the Salsa Standard seems to be recognised as a stepping stone towards achieving compliance with the BRC Food Standard.

Various of Salsa's illustrative  "Forms" have been posted on this Forum, eg for Pest Control Trending. Often quite helpful IMHO.
