What are the differences SQF vs FSSC 22000?

Good day everyone!

I have recently switched positions from a tomato and cabbage processing facility to a grain processing facility that only deals in pet food. At my previous position were level 2 SQF certified. This position had a consultant suggest the grain processor get FSSC 22000 certified. I know very little about the differences or reasons someone would choose one or the other.

Can anyone point me to a thread on here or good links with help for determining the difference or best GFSI scheme to go with?

Thanks in advance!

My last post was FSSC, this one is SQF (both human).....it is my understanding that FSSC is "less precriptive" and therefore works better with the FSMA rules and the new SFCR in Canada

FSSC22000 basically = iso22000 + iso22002-X + a few extras

FSSC  is safety oriented only although the recent inclusion of food fraud somewhat confuses such topics.

This attachment gives an overview comparison -

ISO22000 follows the iso route so is textually generic. It also utilises its own brand of haccp which you will need to relearn.

iso22002-X takes care of the prerequisites. X depends on food, packaging etc

SQF is not generic at all as you probably know and exists on 2 levels - safety and non-safety.

There are more detailed comparisons available using clause-by-clause layouts but not afaik for recent versions.

If you would like to see a haccp plan using fssc2200, -
