Label Requirements for Export to Canada

Hello, we ship cherries in a SO2 brine solution in 1000 pound totes to a Canadian company for further processing. The totes are labeled with our company info, the product description, weight and grade. Once loaded into the truck, which is then sealed, all paperwork goes with the driver to its destination. Our SQF auditor wants to know if we are in compliance with CFIA labeling. I have already contacted CFIA, but no reply yet. FYI, we have been doing this for over 20 years now with no problems. Any thoughts?

I'm assuming you're using a broker?

This is the CFIA requirement for shipping containers

Unfortunetly, CFIA isn't great at getting back in a timely fashion

Yes, we are

If you need an answer to satisfy SQF today, use the link I posted and/or contact your broker----they are paid to ensure things cross effciently and a large part of that is making sure product is labelled correctly

I have seen this, looks like we are only missing the registration number

Ok, thanks....looking at what you gave me, we don't need the registration number, because it is not a Canadian product

CFIA website is easier to navigate than FDA or USDA so usually if you google something you'll get to the right page

So, what it comes down to, is that you don't know if you are in compliance with the labeling requirements for Canada.

Even though a broker may be involved, it is the supplier/shipper that has the responsiblity for CFIA labeling.

Follow Scampi's link and get it done because you will have two mark offs on your audit and how is it that your auditor is asking for this in advance?

The audit was 2 weeks ago before I started working for this company. According to Scampi's link we are in compliance, now we have the correct information to prove it, thanks

Thanks for the clarify.
