SQF edition 8 module 2.2.1.1 - document control

Maybe I am overthinking this..

For SQF EDITION8 module 2.2.1.1 i states; food safety code for mfg includes: "A summary of the organizations food safety policies and the methods it will apply to meet the requirements of the standard..."

what does this necessarily mean? we do have the quality policy .. is that the summary? or should we have something typed up ? the word "summary" is throwing me off..

thanks in advance!

You need a list/summary of all of your policies.

Generally when I prepare a log of changes, i also add a tab for records and a separate tab for policies/programs. All in one place!

From my own experience, auditors are looking for a Food Safety procedure that describes the program, frequencies, responsibilities, etc. Your quality policy may or may not have it depends on how you've set your system up. Just note, it has to focus on the food safety type of issues and not the quality side of things.

For my own program, I have a Food Safety Policy that gives a generalized summary of the Food Safety program. Then I have a Food Safety Procedures that describes what encompasses in my food safety program, including how I verify/validate the program, frequencies, who is responsible, etc. It also references my document register to ensure to correlate all of my food safety documents back to my food safety procedure.

I hope that helps.

Hi Beatrice,

If you follow ISO, I suspect you will like Policies.

Some people like every documented "significant" Procedure to automatically include a Policy in the Format. If this includes yourself, I guess you will have a List and, perhaps,  cross-references.

Personally I only include where specifically (eg mandated) necessary.

The SQF Code afai can see only specifically refers to 2 Policies, and a "Policy manual" (aka Quality manual).

The SQF Guidance seems to merely repeat the Code.
