Do you need a certificate to conduct Internal Audits?

Started by , Aug 16 2018 12:47 PM

Anna: This is my recommendation.

At least one person from your facility should be trained via a BRC course. What you can do is then bring back all of the knowledge you gained and train the rest of your internal audit team.

Internal Audits are critical to your success and your going to need to show competency in this role either way. On top of that, Internal Audits are a huge undertaking (if done correctly) and it would be in your best interest to take an official course.

You do not HAVE to take the course, but it's highly recommended and your auditor is going to want you to prove that your knowledgeable of these types of audits.

Anna: It's difficult to understand what exactly your asking. Are you wondering if you need to perform Internal Audits before your certification? Please elaborate.

I am sorry, I will try to be more specific.

Based on a BRC, point 3.5 , we need to carry the Internal Audits. I saw on the official BRC website, there is the course to become the certified Internal Auditor, therefore I was wondering, if it is necessary to participate the course and if the Internal auditor need to be officially qualified, or internal audits can be carry on by anyone who is selected by company?

Hope this make more sense.

Many thanks for any help.

There are a lot of courses out there for Internal Audits, so i would search for a reputable company for this. Plus you will see cost differences so some research is important. I have attached a link to a one.

I was going to suggest the same thing as Ryan H.  I attended an Internal Auditor training from NSF brought all my materials back and used that material to train the staff.  This satisfied the requirement of the standard.

Hi Anna,
If you need to sort something quickly for an audit that is due very soon then you may want to try Allsafe: https://allsafe-elea...p?categoryid=16

I've had some of my team do the internal auditor and HACCP L2 courses with them, and the feedback has been good so far. They've also been accepted by auditors for both the BRC Food and BRC Agents & Brokers standards.

If you don't have anyone with proper experience of internal auditing then it is perhaps worth doing a full one or two day course, as the opportunity to discuss the subject with knowledgeable people and work through examples with them is going to be useful - we use the Allsafe courses in conjunction with internal training from experienced auditors.

BRC themselves run courses (e.g. https://www.brcgloba...-livingston-uk/) but other well-known providers in the UK to look at would be e.g. Campden BRI, Leatherhead, CertID etc.
