Hi everyone,

I am looking at the new CFIA labeling regulation and trying to figure out what to do. We are small company and no budget for regulatory department, unfortunately.

So do we decalre coconut oil , which is one of the ingredients, just as coconut oil, or it has to be oil ?

If I have palm kernal oil as one of the ingredients, would it be palm oil or remain as palm kernal oil?

soy lecithin remain as soy lecithin?

It's difficult to find this information on the CFIA website.

Here is a section from the Food and Drug regulations regarding common names; there are really useful tables on this link you can use. You need to familiarize yourself with the FDR.  Also, find out where your local CFIA office is so you can call someone directly or use AskmyCFIA

However, if I was use, I would enlist the help of Maxxam or some other accredited lab to do this for you. Yes it is expensive, but not near as expensive as a recall because you've not labelled correctly.

Palm Kernal oil is NOT palm oil

Coconut oil is NOT oil

Soy lecithin will have it's own set of rules as well  (depending on how it is extracted)
