When you send samples for testing do you keep some for self-evaluation

When there is a local authority came to collect sample from ur premise for lab testing, would you guys kept some a same batch of sample for own self verification? Is there any procedure on this ?

I dont think it is required by regulations, however, it is a good idea to retain sample/s from the same batch for your internal evaluation.
Here's an example why (from personnel experience)
In Canada, you must have a health certificate for food animals, all birds were raised on site, and we knew exactly what medications they may have received
The feds take samples to test for medications, and the results take 6 months to come back
every 6 months, we were told that the meat/organs tested positive for a medication that had never been used...........we should have sent samples from the same birds.......but never did
All of these samples go to 1 lab only..........so higher chance of false positives just due to volume............would have been nice to put this to bed
Feds would always ask us what are you going to do about this? Well, 6 months has passed, so nothing........product has been consumed AND we know that med never went in them. There were some other details involved, but had we sampled and tested for the same we could have closed the issue once and for all

It depends.
If you are talking about something like taking one sample for salmonella, unless there is gross contamination, yr subsequent claiming a negative against a finding of positive will not mean very much.

Thats a best Idea, you can counter check by these preserved samples....

Yes, carry out the same sampling as the local authority. Please, take the same quantity of samples as them and from the same batches.
That's the right procedure for several reasons:
- You show them, that you're a professional and that you take their visit seriously
- You can compare the results and the analysis methods in the case of a discrepancy

Assume the analytical methods are both perfect.
Suppose you have a lot of 100 balls, 97 are red (=good) and 3 are black (=bad).
an official picks a black one.
What do you think the chance is that yr reserved sample (assumed to be one ball) will also be black ?
