SQF Training Requirements

Hello all,

Our facility will begin to implement SQF this year. I will be the SQF Practitioner for the facility.  I am looking into some training first. What is the requirement for the Practitioner? I have found a course being offered in my area for implementing SQF systems and then another course for SQF Internal Auditor. Do I need all of this or just the internal auditor?

Also has anyone done the online course? Would you recommend it?

Thanks in advance!

from SQF v8 for food manufacturing

2.1.2.5 The SQF practitioner shall:
i. Be employed by the site as a company employee on a full-time basis;
ii. Hold a position of responsibility in relation to the management of the site's SQF System;
iii. Have completed a HACCP training course;
iv. Be competent to implement and maintain HACCP based food safety plans; and
v. Have an understanding of the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing and the requirements to
implement and maintain an SQF System relevant to the site's scope of certification.

If you're new to HACCP based food safety systems, take all the training you can get.......if you've been managing any form of HACCP for a while, you can probably skip the implementation training

You must also take the internal auditor training----they will ask for it in the audit...........see also BOLD above

I wasn't clear if the internal audit was required or not - so I guess I will be taking that course.

I do have HACCP Training and have created and manage the HACCP program at the facility.

Thanks Scampi!

I did my training at NSFin Guelph ontario............it was 5 days for formal HACCP, internal auditor and implementation..................i only did the HACCP because I needed the certificate........been doing this job a long time but no silly piece of paper HAHAHA

I would do the online if I were you.........that way you can move through it quicker instead of being stuck in a room for a couple of days!!!

People that are involved in internal auditing are required to be trained in internal auditing - that is the way it indicates,the requirement.

You will need HACCP Training and also Internal Audit training (preferably formal so you understand the requirements and what you need to do). Depending on your current experience with SQF, I would highly suggest also looking into SQF Implementation training. Many places offer these courses and training, but depends on your location of course. Best of luck to you..

Oh and... the internal auditor training course is not required to be SQF specific.

I think I am right.  If you follow the new FSMA rules you might need both HACCP training and PCQI training.  I think the PCQI training will work.  You need to check up on this.  If you work in the USA.

Thank you
