Food Grade Lubricants Storage
Per SQF:
If we are limited on space of food grade lubricants, is it okay to store Food Grade Lubricants on the top shelf of a cabinet that stores non-food grade chemicals? Or should we just find another storage cabinet for the food grade lubricants?
In my experiences with SQF non-food grade and food grade lubes are ok to store in the same cabinet as long as the food grade material is not stored below non-food grade material. If the materials are stored on the same shelf they will need to be segregated by a partition of some sort. It should also be said that the cabinet should be neat and clean otherwise it could create concern with the auditor of the potential for cross contamination.
I have a small cabinet in which to store food grade lubricants. It's also labelled clearly across the front that it is food grade chemicals.
We've been audited over 10 years and have never had an issue with chemical storage using a separate cabinet.
In one cabinet is fine, however the method of separation would need to be sealed off. Separation in this case is not just a different shelf.
