Can we use this cart in a dry production facility?

Hi Erick

Looks like this is a "done deal" for you - the correct way is to consult with quality before such purchases are made to ensure expensive mistakes are not made & if this isn't already within your quality procedures it might be an idea to add this requirement  it so decision makers are aware that they should consult before purchases are made?

However as long as

the equipment contains no chemicals that should not be in contact with food (supplier should be able to provide this information)

the equipment is easily cleanable/sterilised and can be swabbed to show this

the equipment condition is monitored so that any damage doesn't contaminate food

I can't see an auditor raising objections (as you'll have proof that equipment is suitable?)

Hi All,

Our production leader purchased these carts for the production area. They are made of press board but have a hard-laminet cover completely covering all wooden areas.

Can we use them in a dry production facility (i.e. spices, dried carrots, etc...)?

Thanks in advance,

Erick

1 Thank

Thanks for the quick response Lesley. A pre-check system would be optimal and we are working our way toward a more functional operation.

From your advice, since we can clean and sanitize them, which we can, then they are good to go.

Thanks

Are they actually claimed to be suitable for  a Food manufacturing Facility ?

= Requirement No.1

No.2 is Validation.

Offhand, they look "flimsy".

Dear erik,

I agree with Lesly. I would prefer an equipment w/o height adjustment (-> have a look on the height-adjustment in pest control).

In any case such equipment should get approval from QA or "hygiene responsible" prior purchase and use should be limited to dedicated applications.

Hi Erick,

I suggest yr first quest is to find any reference which recommends using wood-based items in a food production facility.

IMEX, wood is generally avoided/disliked by auditors although it is still commonly used for meat cutting blocks and pallets in refrigerated storage.

Reasons are typically microbiological and fragmentation.
