Departmental Responsibility for elements of the SQF plan

Hi All,

Does anyone have a resource or a list of what code sections typically go with each department? We have previously been heavily relying solely on the quality department for everything in our SQF plan, but now that we are growing and have more resources we need to divvy out the code and share the responsibility of the code in each department.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

on floor production type records should be the responsibility of the production supervisor, as well as enforcing GMP's

HR plays a big role in GMP's locker use etc as it should be clear when bringing in new employees (no jewelry etc)

As to code, not really.....but some obvious stuff might be like the PM section belongs with maintenance as would lighting and ventilation (but not the monitoring maybe)

Just remember, whomever you give responsibility to has to clearly understand what's involved and whats at stake

Any food safety system (SQF, BRC) assumes that all activites that could impact food safety are addressed by the groups that have responsibilities for their respective functions.

As mentioned above:

  Preventative Maintenance - Maintenance Group

Lockers, Personal Hygiene, etc. - HR

  Program review - Management

  New product development - R&D

  Suppliers - Purchasing

  Sanitation/Cleaning - Production

Trailer Inspection - Shipping and Receiving

  etc.
