Hello everyone,

We have a water softner system installed in our production facility and beside that is our water heater.

I am wondering if it should be covered under SQF 11.5.2 (Water treatment) or not.

Is using a water softner or having water heaters part of Water treatment?

Thanks

Nope, neither should considered water treatment under 11.5.2......that pertains to say, well water that had to be treated for potability (adding chlorine, or UV treatment and the like)

The water heater would not be considered as a treatment item... but, if the water softener uses chemicals (salts, etc) then it would be considered a water treatment system.

Glenn, can you elaborate on that please?  The salt wouldn't change the potability of the water.....

You are referring to 11.5.2.4 when it comes to potability, this is but one subcode under 11.5.2

A water softener is a water treatment system and I have yet to have an Auditor say otherwise even though I have witnessed some miss it.

So when we are creating documentation a water softener is included for this code section.

Hi

If the water is used in a product or for cleaning or comes into contact with a food handler or food contact surface, auditors (depends on who ..)  will ask for risk assessment and use of food grade chemicals.

Hello, guys i gonna buy water filter for my home

who can help me with choice ?

Hi Jino,

I would suggest creating a topic in the "General Community Chat" section for off topic as your query is domestic rather than SQF food industry standards, to avoid confusion in this thread.
