Dear Team

Currently I am working as a food manufacturing technical manager and since post graduation I have worked with various UK food manufacturing in various categories  ( seafood, vegetable oil, herbs and spices, chilled RTE & Protein LR, Chocolate ) as a technical manager primarily supplying to  UK retailers such as M&S, Waitrose, TESCO , Sainsbury's, ALDI , Morrison and Lidl.

I have always enjoyed my role so far but as recently my situation has changed and I can see due to my partner's commitment I have move out of South east so I though may be I can be a independent consultant or a 3rd party certification auditor. As i have spent so many years now in food manufacturing I am quite comfortable to consider becoming a BRC Auditor mainly for Food safety and storage and distribution .

Please can I get some advise what is the route to become a BRC auditor . I have got a BRC  lead auditor training course recently but i got plenty of experience auditing supplier within UK, EU and outside EU , mostly ambient category.

Any suggestion and direction will be highly appreciated as it is a very new are for me

regards

Deb

You should consider contacting the various certifying bodies (you can find them listed on the BRC website) and asking what their requirements are in order to work for them or contract with them as an independent auditor.  Some may have entry training available where you are shadowed for a while before they fully release you to doing independent audits.

As to being a consultant, I would suggest highly that you consider being an audtor first for a while before switching hats.  This is what I did and having been an auditor gave and gives me a tremendous advantage in our SQF consulting business over someone that has never done a certification audit before.

Dear Dalways,

Given your large experience, I would say that you're not far away.

In your situation, it can be interesting to follow job offers at the certification bodies or to send open job application letters to them.

I hope you'll succeed with your career change.

Kind regards,

Thank you so much your reply guys. By end of June my exact location in England will be confirmed once my partner's posting is released and I have started contacting certification bodies and hope to hear from them in due course.

Dear Team

As I started my journey to understand and become a BRC auditor, I realised certification bodies are not so keen in helping out the basic requirement of providing me with any feasible opportunity to obtain 8 shadow audits and 2 witness audit experience. Does anyone know which CB is really helpful in this matter as it was very disappointing response from two CB in UK.

Any suggestion and guidance will be appreciated.

Dear Dalways,

I hope your searching is going well. I just saw a post in LinkedIn from a large international CB that they are looking for new auditors worldwide, including in the food safety area. Just not to be an advertising, message me so I can send you some info.

Kind regards,

Hi Yanislav

Could you please share that link?

Hi Yanislav

Could you please share that link?

That was a few months ago so the link is no longer active. But you can search and like, in LinledIn, all certification bodies that you are interested in and then in the ‘Jobs’ tab in their profile pages check what open positions they have.
