Hi,

We recently had a recall regarding the presence of a medication in our end product (poultry).

What are some of the corrective measures that I need to take for BRC? A new supplier assesment? supplier assessment?

Thanks in advance. correcting measurescorrecting measures

Do you receive flock sheets from the producers/grower PRIOR to the flock arriving for slaughter?

Yes.

A claim ?

A claim from?

We don't have any claims.

Before you change the supplier.

I assume by medicine you mean something like an unapproved antibiotic or growth hormone.

A claim for  - any loss you've been affected by as a result of an error on behalf of your supplier is (I think) what Charles refers to.

As for BRC, you may want to review your HACCP plan (2.14.1), review/update your risk assessment for the product and supplier (3.5.1.1).

1 Thank

It would be helpful if you added a bit more info

Was the drug listed on the flock sheet

Does the grower actually have a prescription for it's use

Was withdrawal time adhered to (according to the flock sheet)

Was the flock sheet ACTUALLY reviewed

Poultry slaughter is my wheelhouse, but I need more info to help

  • drug was NOT listed
  • Grower does not have a prescription for its use
  • Governement is still researching to find out who actually did the contamination (under investigation)
  • The medicine isnt allowed so no withdrawal time
  • flock sheet was reviewed.

Thanks!

Ok, so you really cannot do anything until the investigation is complete

When were the samples of the meat taken during the process?

Have you had an issue with this grower before?

Do you trust the governments lab?  (here in Canada results come back for drugs we KNOW were never used (farm to fork operations complete control over flocks and they take 6 months to come back)

For immediate corrective actions, it's probably best NOT to use this grower IF POSSIBLE, if not possible, this grower needs to be on hold and release

Unfortunately , these situation always goes back to the slaughterhouse to PREVENT this stuff...........and IMHO that is not what should happen, the grower should be suspended pending the investigate BY THE GOVERNMENT

If the samples were obtained correctly following protocol only 2 things can possible have occurred

1) the grower is lying through his/her teeth

2) False positive from government lab

You'd be shocked how often this really happens

-> at the end (thus an endproduct)

Have you had an issue with this grower before?

-> No, never.

-> Well first not. But the counter analyse was positive too so this excludes a fault in the lab.

-> its not really possible to NOT use the grower atm. We need the supplier and the supplier is allowed to keep producing from the governement.

-> I cannot agree more.

1) the grower is lying through his/her teeth

-> Well its possible that the supplier of the chickenfood gave the medication OR that the veterinarian of the farmer added the medication without knowledge of the farmer. All 3 options are possible.

2) False positive from government lab

-> I hope for the farmer not because he will probably be held accountable for the deviation.

I hope this never happens again. But it would appear you're going to have to also ask for paperwork from the feed company as well.

The only thing you really can do at this point is request additional documentation from the farmer, the feed supplier and if you can get it, an affidavit from the vet

Good luck

Thanks!
