Hi,

Our BRC date has been changed.

Thereby our CEO cant be present at the second and last day of the audit.

Is this a problem?

Thanks!

Is CEO an integral part of the HACCP team?

The current version of clause 1.1.11 states that: The most senior production or operations manager on site shall participate in the opening and closing meetings of the audit for certification to the Standard. Relevant departmental managers or their deputies shall be available as required during the audit.

There is no explicit requirement for the CEO to attend, and the interpretation guide also clarifies that the expectation is that the meetings should be attended by "those who are responsible for the hands-on, daily running of the site", and does note that even they may be absent as long as their is a nominated deputy with sufficient seniority available.

I would therefore not expect you to have any problem with this at all as long as e.g. the production manager/director, operations manager/director or similar are present in accordance with the requirements of this clause.

Our CEO has never attended an opening/closing meeting for the 15+ BRC audits we've done - he pops in to say hello at some point, and that's about it!

1 Thank
It may be the case that the most senior operations managers within the company are absent on the day of
the audit because of other commitments; however, there must always be a nominated deputy available
(clause 1.2.1). The objective is to ensure that non-conformities are effectively understood and agreed;
therefore this site representative will need to be sufficiently senior to make decisions regarding any
non-conformities and the corrective action to be taken. ### Jack;  JV Legal Alliance

Thanks all for the comments, appreciate it so much.

How about if the HACCP Team leader of the facility is out sick, but Corporate HACCP coordinator is available?

 Sounds to me that this would be fine. The HACCP Team Leader may or may not be the most senior operations manager. If they happen to be the most senior ops manager, it would appear that the Corporate HACCP Coordinator would be the assigned deputy for this person and would be qualified to fill in for the opening/closing meeting as well as to discuss the HACCP section of BRC.
