Food safety culture - behavioural science

In the work I've been doing with food safety culture, I've been trying to use some behavioural science techniques to help with behaviours.  I'm starting to think of next steps and thought I could start a thread for any other behavioural science nerds to share some research and perhaps some ideas of how to apply it to food safety culture?

 

So here is my first link and some ideas.  You'll need to read the attached to get what the research is but it's an easy read.

Use the Power of Social Influence (also known as social norms) - I was wondering if this could be with signage.  "We did a survey and found 99% of people wash their hands after the toilet every time."  or something similar?

 

Make the Desired Outcome the Default - use of turnstyle based hand wash systems (so can't bypass the system) or by the route into the plant could be designed so it makes it difficult to avoid handwashing.  If you have a problem with cabinets used to store unauthorised items, remove them and put in dedicated storage for what is permitted.

 

Eliminate “Choice Traps” - roll out concepts individually into your production areas rather than all at once. Focus on one food safety issue per month so people can master it and feel comfortable.  Or give easy troubleshooting guides for simple food safety problems to avoid analysis paralysis.

 

To Promote Behavior, Help People Solidify Their Plans - this could be used as a way to encourage ownership in an area as part of a coaching conversation.  So for example, if you find a food contact brush on the floor, you may already have a conversation around how that's not the right location and even ask the person to do something to resolve it but by talking through solidifying their plans on it, it's more likely to then happen.

Thanks and that's a great basic guide but not really what I mean, it's using some basic techniques to leverage behaviours but I'm looking for the next level...
