Product label vs. Specification Sheet
Hey everyone,
we use a processing aid in our formulation process for a product we make. We have it listed at the end of our product ingredient labels as well as spelled out on our specifications sheet of what the make-up is in our processing aid. We have a customer that would like us to completely remove the words "processing aid" from our label but keep it on the specification sheet. My question is, is this allowed for FSMA/FDA? We're also SQF. I cannot find this information anywhere on the FDA website.
thanks so much!

Hi,
It can be exempted, as long as it falls under the definition of a Processing Aid and is not a known Allergen:
Please refer to the following:
https://www.accessda....cfm?fr=101.100
(ii) Processing aids, which are as follows:
(a ) Substances that are added to a food during the processing of such food but are removed in some manner from the food before it is packaged in its finished form.
(b ) Substances that are added to a food during processing, are converted into constituents normally present in the food, and do not significantly increase the amount of the constitutents naturally found in the food.
(c ) Substances that are added to a food for their technical or functional effect in the processing but are present in the finished food at insignificant levels and do not have any technical or functional effect in that food.
