Grammage standards of gable top packaging
Hello,
i'm working in a new gable top packaging manufacturing and are new in this field. I want to know about it as standards relating to the grammage choice standards depending on the volume of the package and the quality standards.
I will be happy if someone can post some specifications or documents.
Hello,
As a responsible of quality control in a folding cartoons (gable top) manifacturing, i want to know about the quality checks that i should ensure khnowing that we have a flexo (speed=180m/min)and we use only strobe light to check the printing. What kind of checklist can i provide (parameters).
Thanks
Hi Leila,
Are you referring to the weight standards of the paperboard packaging itself? If so, this will be dependent on the gable-top size, paperboard base layer, and amount (thickness) of the plastic layers on the inner and outer sides of the paperboard.
You have to create the standards based on your process and products. You may be able to find some guidance and information from other paperboard manufacturers, supplies; three I know of are International Paper, Elopak, and Tetrapak.
Hello,
I mean, if we produce gable top 500 ml volume, what should we use as grammage (no less than...g/m², no more than......g/m²).
Thanks.
Leila,
Difficult to say because it depends on the board weight, and the weight of the other layers on the final package / finished board. You would have to conduct a study to determine what your specifications should be for your finished board.

Doesn't your customer spec that for you? If not can you push that back to them with a: "We're willing to provide the packaging to your spec's". Let them take the liability.
Hello,
The costumer always compare the grammage et especially the weight of one piece to the concurrent so that he expect to have a package at least resistant and tough package. For exemple with Elopak he used for 1/2L gable top to have weight of 15.5g , but with our the weight is around 15.2g. The difference is not that amount very high and the package is very tight and strong but the customer still focus on those little things. So the better is to khnow the standards specification so that we can argue the discussion.
Thanks
Hello,
what is the principle of the dark room check of the aseptic gable top(aluminium)? and it should be checked during the die cutting or the sealing?
How we explain the importance of the immersion of the aseptic package in hot water before checking the sealing?
thanks
