Labelling of cassava and tapioca startch
Hi Folks,
Hope you all are doing well!
A quick question - If you have main ingredient as Cassava Flour in your ingredients; do you still have to declare tapioca starch separately in the ingredient deck ? Kindly advice.
Thanks
Can someone please give advice to my question above?
Thanks
I don't know for sure, because I've never used cassava flour. If tapioca starch is an ingredient in the cassava flour, I would spell it out. Usually if an ingredient is a mixture of other ingredients, this is indicated in the ingredient panel. Based on that, I would say yes, you should indicate all of your single ingredients.
Thanks QAGB for your response.
Actually the ingredient statement on the label only states Cassava Flour but we want to add Tapioca Starch in the recipe.. So wanted to know if listing only Cassava Flour will be fine or we have to change the ingredient labelling to state Tapioca Starch as well.
Hope this makes it clear.
Thanks

I see. Thanks for the clarity. Yes, you should definitely add that to your ingredient label.
Hi sarah,
Out of curiosity, may I enquire as to why you thought it might not be necessary to declare the added ingredient on the label ?
(Apologies for my ignorance but I assume "Tapioca Starch" is not the same thing as "Cassava Flour")
Hi Charles,
See attached link.. I understand the process is diiferent to get the Cassava flour and Tapioca starch; however both were derived from Cassava root.. So was the confusion..
In our recipe our main ingredient was cassava flour but were just adding 4% of tapioca for binding the dough..
