Supplier Co-Packer Question

Started by , Sep 09 2019 01:27 PM

Hi J Perri

If the co-packer of that supplier pack your products then yes you need to ask that co-packer to fill your questionnaire. You also need to obtain that supplier's quality certification documents.

Hello,

I am currently collecting Supplier Approval documents. One supplier of ours has a co-packer who packs their product for them. Do I need to contact this company (the co-packer) to fill out our supplier questionnaire??

Thank you for your help!!

Jenna

1 Thank

In your position I'd be looking to assess both parties - whilst the co-packer is directly in control of the safety aspects related to the packing process, your supplier may be in control of other food safety aspects in terms of raw material sourcing etc.

I'd also contact your supplier to ask them to liaise with the co-packer, or at least to ask their permission before contacting the co-packer directly, as some companies can be a bit funny about this sort of thing.

Thanks for the feedback.

From the information from you and Dr. Khan, I am assessing both parties. I have collected the suppliers food safety certificate, they have filled out the questionnaire. The supplier also agreed to help me with contacting the co-packer as well.

I appreciate your help! I hope the co-packer cooperates...
