Inquiry on dating of food product imports into the US

Hey everyone, I am planning on importing a food product into US.

And I am aware that the FDA is only voluntarily requiring dating of food products except for infant formulas.

But is there any specific reason why the most importers date their products?

And will it be a problem if there is no dating for the food product? (during the inspection and etc)
