Allergen Warning Statement
Hi , We are producing a gluten free product which contains gluten free oats. Whilst I know we have to bold the word 'oats' in the ingredients list which allergen warning statement do we legally need to apply - allergens in bold, allergens containing cereals in bold or allergens: none. I feel it is confusing for the consumer to say see allergens highlighted in bold when there are none except for the gluten free oats - even thought the oats are bolded.
Can anyone advise at all please?
Many thanks.
It's not strictly mandatory under Regulation (EU) 1169/2011, but I'd go with: "Allergen Advice: for allergens, see ingredients in bold"
(There is a quick guide from the FSA here: https://www.food.gov...d-manufacturers)
Do not under any circumstances state "allergens: none", as this this is not true and would be in direct contravention of food labelling regulations - oats are an allergen irrespective of the gluten content (it's possible to be allergic to / have an intolerance for proteins in cereals other than gluten).
Ok, thank you very much for your help.
