Completing enough audit hours to become an SQF Auditor?

So... I'm thinking of becoming a SQF auditor... maybe in the distant future but i want to start completing the requirements now.

I am reading on the requirements for competency and registration and i have a question...

How do i get to complete the 160 hours of food safety audits? Based on the requirements, internal audits are not considered. How do i earn the hours to complete 160 hour of food safety audit? I am employed full-time, is there a way I can meet these requirement and complete these out of my "office hours"?

I meet the other competencies such as education, work experience but needs to take the SQF auditing systems 4 day training soon. Can anyone point me to the right direction please and thank you. I am in Ontario Canada, so if this info helps.

I have the same question. Also interested into being a consultant sometime in the future, depending on flexibility. I heard that as being an auditor one can not choose their own workload...

I was an SQF Auditor.

To get the 160 hours you need to do audits.

So, you need to work for an auditing company.

Can't be an SQF Auditor without being an Auditor first.

As SQF Consultants we have now and then contracted directly with Auditors to do audits on our client locations and their suppliers - this time could also be qualified as past of the 160 requirement.

Hi Glen,

But how can you be an auditor for an auditing company if you are not qualified yet as an auditor? Competency requirement says "Qualifying audits that are included on the audit log must reference a recognized standard, checklist or audit tool."

So for sure i am not able to do SQF, BRC or FSSC standard because all have requirement to be an auditor so is HACCP, GMP audit counts?

So i need to find an auditing company who can hire me part time to do audits? or find a consultant who can outsource the auditing part to me for their client? Do you need any auditor for Canada? hahaha... :)

You do general audits - 3rd party type - contact an auditing company and see if they have an entry method for you.
