CFIA metal detection limits
Hi,
Can you please help me with some documentation showing CFIA metal (Fe, Non-Ferrous, and stainless) limits?
Thanks
You're going to have to help me first by telling me what CFIA means! Canadian food inspection agency? If you're asking if there are legal limits set out in law, I've never found them in any legislature. The nearest is the FDA guidelines which I've used to back up the reason for my limits for years.
Thanks a lot GMO!
Yes,absolutely Canadian food inspection agency.
We are a bakery in Canada--- making Buns, pizza, crumbs ect. and our limits are as below
Fe: 1.5
Non-Fe: 2.5
Stainless steel: 3
And now i am preparing for BRC, according to clause 2.7.3 (edition-8), we have to set our critical limits. In our company as i told you we have above critical limits, but got confused how to justify to auditor that on what basis we set these limits.
Please guide me.
Thanks
Uma
Dear Uma,
Please find the attached CFIA document, anything more than 2mm is a hazard

Hi Uma,
IIRC The current Canadian limits are detailed on the CFIA website and vary from >0 to >2mm depending on the consumer situation.
afaik, the above is, logically, independent of the ferrous etc.
Thanks Mahantesh and Charles. C!
Its a great help :)
