Approved Chemicals- SDS, Allergen Statements

Hello,

I am approaching my SQF audit next month. This is our first certification and I'm a little nervous.

I have a question about what documenation I need for my approved chemicals list. I have an SDS for every single chemical in our plant. I also have an allergen statement for each chemical used on food contact surfaces and hand soap and sanitizers.

Is it necessary to have an allergen statement on chemicals that do not come in contact with food? such as our floor cleaners? or cleaners for the restrooms?

Thank you for your responses in advance.

Hi
SDS is enough, however, the employees have to be aware of the chemicals used and thier application. All you need to arrange the documents in an easy and clear order...

The allergy declaration has to be for the final product. if the final product contains allergic chemicals then it has to be declared clearly on the label.

do not be nervous, be confident...

Hi dg,

Not a SQF user so other users welcome to contradict.

I suggest you read the Guidance, eg this extract -

Specifications must fully describe the materials provided.  Safety-related information in raw material and
ingredient specifications may include threshold levels for microbiological pathogens, factors affecting
microbiological growth such as pH and water activity, threshold levels for potential chemical or physical
contaminants and the presence or absence of known allergens.  The extent to which these factors need to be
included in the specifications will depend on the use of the material and the food safety risk to the finished
product.

Just as a scope example regarding allergens, IIRC there is a previous thread here regarding lubricants for machinery in which the acquisition of suitable (negative) supplier declarations was discussed.
