Use of external traps that don't use bait

Hello Friends,

I am currently working on a Pest Control program for a new facility, and we have opted to build our own program until we can get some data.  We are a vegan company with strong animal welfare values, and there are some concerns about the use of bait stations.  With that being said, if we decide to use live traps, we will need to check them daily...

Does anyone have a similar set-up or any advice to offer?

Thank you!

What are you hoping to accomplish with the traps?

We use bait boxes with non-toxic baits around the perimeter of the site, so they don't do any harm to anything but we do get an idea if there is any activity that might require more serious action.

Prevention is going to be your friend, becuase if you ever do have an infestation, unfortunately you don't really have effective non lethal options.

Life traps would be fine inside facility, and outside if you don't want to use a lethal method then the only point of the traps is as a monitoring tool.pHruit above mentioned why non-lethal bait blocks may be effective for that purpose but again, if you want to avoid lethal treatments, what would your corrective actions actually be?

Internal monitoring and extrememly vigorous garbage control and faciilty entry point elimination are going to be your tools to avoid having to deal with this.

Do you want to catch and release rats?

I would rather go for preventative methods by ensuring the structure is sealed, policies in place to ensure that doors are not left open, that loading areas are effectively sealed and only opened after a truck backs up and into a sealer annex for instance where no possibility of entry exists.

Then I would ensure that waste is grinded and sealed prior to disposal.

There are ways to do it so that you won't even need outside traps.
