FDA reference on acceptable number of insects in a certain weight?
Hi everyone!
Not sure if posted in correct area.
We repack whole dried chili peppers. We receive them in bulk and repack in smaller bags and ship to customers/retail
We want to do the filth test/extraneous material, where we want to check for any insects live or dead. I contacted our lab and they and we are trying to figure how much would the representative sample be? Because I informed them we want a certain percentage in a certain weight. But I am not really familiar with how much to send them. and I am trying to research it.
Does anyone have perhaps any FDA reference/ guide on the acceptable amount/specification of allowed insects in a certain weight?
Thanks!
I would think it falls under "Capsicum pods".
Thanks!
Sorry, don't want to gross anyone out, but everytime I hear about dry chili peppers, this is all I can think of, everytime.
Warning, pretty gross content for you food safety buffs!

You need to consult the current FDA DAL publication.
