Compressed air testing of main compressor or all lines?

Good afternoon all,

Regarding compressed air testing, can we test at the main compressor that runs all air lines in our facility, or do we need to test each line?  I'm thinking we need to test each line, but the question was asked today about only testing the main compressor.

Thank you,

Jill

What are you testing for?

Oil, water, other particles and microbial contaminants.  I was just reading the update to SQF Edition 8 about nitrogen and carbon dioxide not posing a risk, so we would need to test for that as well?

normally the main is tested as well as all outlets, such as under SQF mandatory testing for compressed air that is an ingredient, food contact or food contact surface.

Thank you.  I appreciate your input.  I know I will feel better when it comes to an audit if we have tested all outlets.

We test at point of use for all machines in case of incidental contact with the product. We also only do yeast and mold testing. Our filtration system and point of use filters are on a 6 month inspection cycle for other contaminants. Our compressors are inspected / serviced monthly. This combination allows us only Yeast and Mold testing

Interesting.  What type of filters do you use at point of use and on your main compressor?  Thanks!

Since our machines are specific to our processes, paperboard packaging manufacturing we use the filter the manufacturer specifies. They are fine particulate filters that mount inside the bowl of the regulators. Our compressors are a paper fine particulate type, also specified by the manufacturer (Sullair) for food manufacturing applications.

I appreciate your input.  Thanks so much!
