Declaring Nutrition Facts when repacking product?
Hey everyone! Hope everyone is staying safe amid the recent pandemic!
So I am trying to update a label for a product that is: already packaged individual lolipops, we will be putting those lolipops in our bags. So there goes a label on there with the Nutrition facts panel there. Now I refer to the original packaging from the manufacturer for the facts panel. The issue is it is from Mexico and I am assuming they have different rules and laws when it comes to the NF panel? They have the old US format and as you all know in the US we have to be using the newest format already effective.
So how am I exactly going to obtain the newest format? I will be needing potassium & Vitamin D especially along with added sugars. How can I implement that? Do I have to send the lolipops for Nutritional analysis? What is required? Any help?
Have you tried asking the Mexican source if they have the missing info?
A lot of manufacturers have a great deal more information than they share on the label - I certainly want to know things about my products, even if I don't want to be making life hard by including claims etc on the label ;)
Also worth asking if they can provide the full data as per US requirements, which they may well be able to do if they are after business in the US - not that uncommon for manufacturers operating internationally to have multiple datasets to cover different requirements.
Otherwise analysis is relatively easy to commission. Not sure on which labs to point you towards in the US but it's not particularly specialist testing so should be fairly readily available.
Good Day! I have been using this site to create the nutrition panels then I send it to the co manufacture. If the lab did not test for potassium or Vit D then I have been sending it out.

They do have the nutritional but its the old format that we use in the USA :/ I just need to update to old format, even on their spec sheets they gave me the old format. I do know a lab to test but its going to take time!

Having trouble with quotes today. Regarding your posts 5 and 6, I don't understand.
You're saying the supplier has given you the Vitamin D and Potassium content, or no? If they've given you the Vit D and Potassium content, you could crunch the numbers to figure out the content on your lollipop labels. I'm just not sure I'm understanding the situation fully.

LOL Its been a hectic week :silly: sorry for being so vague!
Okay so no, they only gave me nutritionals for old format, which excludes Vit D and Potassium.
BUT I was able to figure it out from the individual ingredients... and I made a rough estimate. Vit D & Potassium are barely there!

Ah. It's ok - I understand now. I'm surprised they can't provide the Potassium and Vitamin D amounts to you. As mentioned previously, suppliers often do testing that they don't always include on their specs or nutritionals. Every time I was given the old format nutritionals and requested these contents, they'd either send me a revised copy, or give me the answers in an email. I would then update the spec or nutritional sheet with a note on these answers.
The USDA does have a nutritional database (maybe that is what you used to figure this out), where you can at least get established numbers for most ingredients, and then "plug and chug" the numbers to figure out the amounts.
If you didn't use that, I would ask that you do (in case it comes up during an inspection or audit as to how you got your figures).
