Is it acceptable for an auditor to include a finding that was not mentioned during the audit closing meeting?

Hello,

The week of the 9-13 we had our FSSC and ISO9001 audit. They sent 2 auditors, one for 3 days and the other for full 5 days. The first 3 days was the FSSC audit. We had 2 closing meetings, one on Wed with the lead auditor and a follow-up on Friday with the 2nd auditor.

Both auditors sent me their "tentative" findings pretty quick but I still have not received the official report.

The question I have is now almost 3 weeks later the 2nd auditor is asking for corrective actions for a finding that was not on either of the tentative finding reports nor mentioned at the closing meetings.

I thought they had to tell you all the findings before they left so you could dispute them. Can they add this additional finding weeks after the audit?

Good day

My experience with doing audits is a resounding no! Not only should a non-conformity be indicated for possible dispute but also for this very reason that you are aware of the expectation to correct it. I think you should respond to the request formally highlighting the fact that the non-conformity was not on either of the tentative finding reports.

Sounds terribly sloppy work to me.

I can speak for FSSC auditors, but as an SQF Auditor we always went over the entire audit from the standpoint of write ups.

Granted, the audit was subject to review by the CB, but I never saw anything added on, in fact if there was a question from the reviewer that could not be fully explained satisfactory by the Auditor, there was a better chance for something to be taken off.

After that process was done the audited facility was invited to begin their corrective action submissions with the Auditor reviewing each one for acceptance or rejection.

Challenges did happen, but these should be expressed during the out-briefing when you normally get the big picture.

Something went very wrong on the auditing for your company.

I would suggest challenging/complaint to the CB and make a copy to FSSC operating organization as well.

Alo,

Altough possible, a very bad auditor practice....

You can ALWAYS claim to the CB,

good luck,

Leila

Evidence of the violation needs to be present so if there is nothing in your copy of the report provided to you at the closing meeting, there is effectively evidence and therefore no violation. I would definitely contest the violation and get that point back.
