Ask you Pest Controller to Risk Assess the level of access they need to your facility

If the Corvid 19 issue was only going to last for a couple of weeks, postponing your pest inspections might be 'prudent', however it will last for months. In these circumstances, a undiagnosed pest infestation could cause food businesses serious problems.

I strongly recommend that you continue your planned Pest inspections.

Ask the Technical Representative from your Pest supplier for an assessment of pest risk within your facility. There are very few food businesses where the only significant risk is in external areas. Pest activity often develops in areas where your staff do not regularly go - roof voids, plant rooms etc. and these should be checked regularly.

Over the last few years, there has been an increase in insect infestations internally generated within the production environment. These have not only been Stored Product Insects but have included an increase in insects that were previously regarded as 'accidental invaders'. These have been found breeding in both wet and dry production areas - Rove beetles for example.

Unless the catch count and trending on fly light and insect monitors is maintained, these will not be identified in time for early intervention. Retrieving well-developed infestations requires more resource (people) and more disruption to business.

Are you a pest contractor?

Seriously, we've maintained.  Nobody would thank us if we had an infestation now.

Yes I am a Pestie and worried by sites that are deferring their visits or requesting 'external only' without consulting their pest supplier

I agree, the last thing the food chain needs at the mo is an increase in pest activity!
