Is it necessary to follow the new ISO 22000 to get HACCP certification?

Noob here again, this might come off as an odd question to some of you here but I really need to verify this.

I think if you get certified in ISO 22000 then you're by definition certified in HACCP, but does it work the other way around too? Do you need to follow ISO 22000, and I'm specifically talking about the 2018 version, to get certified in HACCP? If not then what document describes the necessary requirements for HACCP?

Thank you!

There is only one iso22000 Standard, There are many HACCP Standards.

Numerous Organisations will audit/certify Manufacturing facilities according to their HACCP Standard (typically based on certain published documents such as "Codex HACCP", "NACMCF HACCP")

Yess that's what I wanted to know! So there is still a lot of companies following the traditional Codex Alimentarius HACCP right?

Yes although most haccp Standards in use are probably nearer a (maybe expanded) mixture of Codex/NACMCF content (for example Codex says little about PRPs whereas NACMCF gives a list)

BRC, SQF Standards both state their haccp content is "based on" Codex HACCP.

ISO developed it's own variation of Codex haccp for iso22000 (= iso-haccp)

Codex later (2008) also published an important document on implementing validation as utilised in haccp.

Sometimes it is better to just ask your biggest customers what they would accept.

I work as auditor. So, if the company applies for certification acc ISO 22000 you can also get additional certificate with the reference to HACCP (it is additionally paid).

Hi Andrea,

Would that be iso-haccp, Codex haccp, or BH-haccp ?

Hi Andrea,

Would that be iso-haccp, Codex haccp, or BH-haccp ?

That would be issued certificate ISO 2200:2018 + additional HACCP certificate acc Codex alimentarius. If I understood your question properly :)

The best thing for you is to send inquiry to specific Certification body that would provide this type of audit.

Hi Andrea,.

"Codex HACCP" is not a legal Standard, but a Code of Practice outlining the Principles of HACCP and how it can be implemented.

ISO essentially invented a "new"  haccp for the iso22000 Standard ie ISO-HACCP.

It's a little like "GFSI Certification" - non-existent but a useful promotional terminology.
