Analyzing surface cleaners for the efficiency against bacteria & virus

Do anybody have approved method to check the efficiency of surface cleaners (alcohol, hydrogen peroxide based etc) against bacteria and virus like covid-19.

Are you looking for a method to validate a cleaning product you're developing, or trying to find out whether cleaning products that you are using are effective?

For the latter I'd suggest two things:

1) Contact your cleaning chemicals provider - they may have tested some of the cleaners for efficacy against viruses and should certainly have done so against bacteria, at least for those products designed with this purpose in mind.

2) The US EPA has a list of cleaning products approved for use against Covid-19 here, and this also details the active component of each: https://www.epa.gov/...inst-sars-cov-2

afaik cleaners/detergents do not eliminate  specific bacteria/viruses although the cleaning/washing process should reduce the total microbial load. Sanitisers are  (variably) effective against pathogenic  bacteria/viruses

Covid-19 virus seems to be a relatively rare exception regarding detergent vulnerability.

70% alcohol, H₂O₂ are sanitisers.

We were advised by our chemical supplier ECOLAB to use Synergexx - attached is their instruction.

Hi Charles, regardless - it does its work pretty well: we also use it for conventional and organic sanitizing, including CIP. And it's perfect as surface sanitizer.

It is organic approved?  I ask because of the octanoic acid which is not organic approved; at least that's my understanding as of 2018.  It came up during our organic auditor because we use Vortexx (from Ecolab) which has octanoic acid in it and the organic auditor said it is not approved for organic.  Luckily, we were doing water flushes on all organic equipment after sanitizing and before production at the time.

This document gives the recommended testing standards for different organisms in different contexts. The common one for virus efficacy is EN14476

Does anyone use or heard of ATP being a tool to verify effectiveness against removal of the virus?? 

Hey guys, I've just got info for another sanitizer, here's info from ECOLAB "Mikro-Quat will be able to be used as a COVID-19 product. Here is the statement from our Regulatory Group:

• Spray on the surface wipe to clean. Then spray on the surface to disinfect and allow to air dry
• It could also be used to mop floors in the stair ways, offices, bathrooms etc to clean and disinfect against Covid 19.

• Dilution - 7.8ml/litre"

Ah, well let me clarify; is it organic approved as a no rinse sanitizer application?  Meaning, you can use the sanitizer and then run organic products without a water rinse or product push / purge?

Ryan, no, it's not on the list of Approved Substances if it's what you meant. But we got usage approval provided it's rinsed after application.

With respect to an earlier post, ATP testing would not work with viruses as they don't contain ATP in themselves.

To find out efficiency of chemicals used as surface cleaners , you need to carry of validation covers series of test such as microbial swab test (before and after application) for the specific bacteria and virus trageted.

You can get it the validation data form the chemical mfg. If they dont have you must go for validation at diif concentraions.
