SQF 2.4.5 - Non-Conforming Equipment Definition

I am working on creating policies for Non-Conforming Product and Equipment (SQF 2.4.5), but am having a difficult time effectively explaining when equipment would be considered non-conforming versus when it would simply fall under section 11.2.10 Premises and Equipment Maintenance.  Can anyone offer guidance or examples of non-conforming equipment policies?

Equipment which risks the quality and/or safety of the material / food.

Equipment that is received and found to be defective - non conforming to purpose

Equipment that is in place but not being used for extended periods of time - ready for planned removal, just not removed yet, etc. thus non-conforming

+ notes from Ryan above.

Any equipment that poses a food safety risk falls under this category in our policy. This can be due to a damaged seal that can cause a choking hazard, a metal detector that is not functioning how it should, or equipment that is in unsanitary conditions.

As far as wording we just have a general statement on how non conforming equipment will be handled to avoid a food safety risk and possible corrections.

Our policy includes equipment not specifically designed for the intended use once installed or "cannibalize" sections of machinery to alter a machine or add to another machine plus the aforementioned.
