Hi,

looking for some guidance, hopefully someone with experience with salmon and the likes.

What do smoked salmon manufacturers do for metal detection? The introduction of gold cards can set the metal detector off, so what do you do?

Clarity please?

Hi Sarah,

if you use a quality metal detector, chances are good that it can compensate the gold card and still achieve comparably high detection accuracy.

We are just launching a new metal detector technology called "THiNK".

It uses artificial intelligence to detect metallic contaminants.

One of the good things about it is, that it deals very well with metallic packaging.

We ran product tests already with salmon and gold card and achieved very good results.

Kind regards,

Christian

Hi,

there are detection heads made specifically for metalized packaging, but I believe they are limited to ferrous metals. Contact your MD manufacturer and they should be able to help. Other than that:

  • X-ray
  • Change your fish boards to something non-metallic (Mylar backed perhaps)
  • review your process to see if a visual inspection of equipment is reasonable to mitigate this hazard
