Sanitation Validation

Does anyone have experience with the "rinse method" of sanitation validation with regards to sterilizing the rinse water that would be used for a 500 gal tank? Would purified (RO) water be acceptable or would public chlorinated water work. If the later is acceptable I assume a "control sample" of the water should be plated as well as the sample rinse water.

Hi Rpl106,

:welcome:

Welcome to the IFSQN forums.

I think the problem is usually getting access to sample the rinse water without contaminating the sample.

Normally I prefer to use Peroxyacetic Acid (PAA) for disinfection as it can be used in the final rinse without the need for further rinsing unless the product falls under an organic category where a final rinse of potable water is required.

So, this can be done 2 ways:

1. Sample the Final Rinse with PAA but neutralise it before plating and compare with Water Supply (Control)

2. Rinse with Potable Water Supply after the Final PAA Rinse and sample that and compare with Water Supply (Control)

Also consider if the water supply is chlorinated, you most likely need to neutralise that as well when sampling.

Kind regards,

Tony
