Wash down in between.

They are not the same. Which is why we indicate what type of treenut is in a product on the product label. For instance, some people may be allergic to walnuts but not to hazelnuts :)

Tree nuts are not all the same.

Need wash downs between.

Just a reminder, in the US, coconut counts as a tree nut allergen.

After 20 years of consulting and auditing I had never run into anyone that was allergic to coconut.

Then one day I am walking thru a plant that manufacturers pina colada and other coconut containing drinks and I mention to the manager that I have never met anyone that was allergic to coconut - he looks at me and says, REALLY!?! to which I said YES and he goes on to tell me that three people in the company are allergic to coconuts and five other people they know that live in town are as well.

Amazing, a hot spot!!!

As a dietitian with a biology degree - coconut as an allergen was something I never understood as well. I'm glad you found someone who is allergic because I have yet to meet anyone either.

There is a statistic that says 25% of the American population hates coconut, independent of an allergy.  I fall into that 25%.

Must be the new diet trend of 2021!

Does anyone have resources I can visiit (websites) or share that will explain the requirements for full cleaning in between tree nuts?

I'm allergic to coconut !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi FoodSafetyAPP,

interesting and at the same time bad luck for you of course.

I have had this topic (labeling of "refined" coconut oil (different level of refining to reduce 3-MCPD-ester and GE) for the US ), some years ago and it was very hard to find any clinical data. The US declaration is exempted for fully refined oil only (whatever that means in such context I am examining).

Do you as an allergic food safety expert have successfully looked for informations/literature/clinical data for better understanding?

Then I can be very helpful for all the colleagues here to receive some links.

Thanks in advance.
