Self Service Bulk Labeling

Hello, I have a question about the FDA's new nutrition facts/label changes that are effective now.

 

I am working on bulk labels for self service areas in stores. I sent out emails requesting specification sheets for the items that I need to make labels for and I received them.

 

I know that the new requirements for the nutrition facts need serving sizes in household measurements. Most of the specification sheets I have received are for the 100g analysis of the product. I have requested that I get a specification sheet that has the household measurements on it, but I am basically getting ignored or told they do not have it. 

 

I want to make sure there is not something that I am missing from the guidance document... Would the manufacturer have to provide an updated ingredient analysis/specification sheet/nutritionals that reflect household measurements, or is there an exemption that I am missing for this for the self-service bulk labels?

 

100g (100g) would be the serving size on the bulk label if they don't provide household measurements.

for most things you could do a product search at packaged retail as the legal serving size would be the same---LIKE for LIKE

 

i.e. all purpose flour (regardless of how its bought)  this example is gold medal  so it shows 1/4 cup or 30 grams as a serving. So you can do the math on the 100 gram spec sheet you have to use for the nutritional panel------this may be labour intensive but effective!

Bleached Wheat Flour, Niacin (a B Vitamin), Iron, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), EnzymesFolic Acid (a B Vitamin).

Do you know your state FDA food code for bulk areas. This will come into factor as well. This will tell you what information you need to have. The ServSafe book would have it in there.

I assume you are buying in bulk in which case they will not have the individual labels or information.

You would need to come up with your own.
