Do we need to have allergen information on secondary packaging?

Hi all, my site is preparing for their first BRC. One of our customer asked for  including allergen information on outercase labels(which are secondary packaging). Wondering if we need to have allergen information on secondary packaging.

Well if your customer asked for this, then they have their reasons, they probably want to sell it with the secondary packaging? It is recommended to include allergen info on both. I am not familiar with UK rules & regulation on it though.

My site is preparing for their first BRC. One of our customer asked for including including allergen information on outercase labels(which are secondary packaging). Wondering if we need to have allergen information on secondary packaging.

I've seen this rapidly increase in popularity in the UK. If it's not the unit of sale then it's outside the scope of the regs, but lots of sites want it nice and clear to make allergen identification and management easier for their goods-in people. I've even had customers request specific colour-coding on out labels to match their own coding schemes (all of which are different from each other...).

 

I don't think you *have* to do it, but equally you need to accept that the customer may take their business elsewhere if you can't accommodate their requirements.

FWIW I'd do it and just build it into your own allergen management system too - very few customers/auditors will object to having slightly more controls, so that is a secondary benefit for your site too ;)

are the products in secondary packages sold as such e.g. in cash and carry to a consumer ?
EU labelling rules tell that such informations have to be provided at the POS to make a conscious decision.

Yes, do it.  It is a great practice and readily helps persons in distribution and supply chain to ensure there is not allergen cross contact in the supply chain.

 

AFAIK it is not required.
