I have searched the topic on here but didn't find what I was looking for. Since most dog food has meat and bone meal which contains hair. Can I do a risk assessment and get rid of hair nets in our dog food plant?

Thanks

Maybe you can, before that consider any customer standards or other GFSI you may have to meet with the hair/beard net requirement.

Slightly different product here but SQF and customer standard states hair coverings is a must for us.

i doubt it, hair inclusion - visible - while not a food safety issue is an impression/quality issue that few like and is a signal to a consumer that all is not what it should be at the xyz dog food company.

Thanks for the replies. I will dig into it further. I had an auditor bring it up on why we wore them due to meat and bone having hair in it. As you stated from a food safety aspect i would imagine it would be the same. Customers are a different story and one that i had not thought about.

A little note that never gets mentioned...........human hair is a carrier of staph.........so ya it's not visually appealing, but it can make humans and pets quite sick

Unless you specifically want to get rid of headwear, you could assess the feasibility of a hat rather than hairnet if it complies with your requirements and you want to reduce consumable usage
