Does anyone know how to label San Marzano Tomatoes? I see a few lawsuits on labelling the San Marzano Tomatoes in the USA, I believe it is in regard to using the name San Marzano. Anyone have luck with how to label them? Thank you. Roberto

I think your best to called them San Marzano style tomatoes or something similar like canned Roma tomatoes (which would be the actual type of tomato)

Much like Parma ham or Champagne , San Marzano is an area, not specifically a breed of tomatoes (although they are superior IMHO)

UNLESS you are importing tomatoes from that region of Italy and are certified as such

Having eaten imported romas from that region of Italy, I for one, fully understand why they don't want others making the claim

San Marzano Tomatoes are a variety classification in the ROMA tomato arena.

Sometimes there are license fees depending on how your label will read - this is a good place to understand "DOP" as it applies here...

San Marzano's are very unique in the tomato world, but roma/plum types have been substituted as they are cheaper, while close the actual makeup of the san marzano is completely different - this is where people run into lawsuits, legal issues, etc.
