Need help on establishing an EMP for Pet Food Manufacturing

How can I implement an EMP for a chemical?

Background:  My facility makes a simple amino acid that is 10 times sweeter than sugar, it is a powder.  It is used to enhance the flavor profile for pets, mainly cats.  We are the largest U.S based manufacturer and even though we are ISO 9001 certified, our major customer(s) want us to be GFSI/ FSSC certified.

We are a synthetic process and the entire process is hard piped until packaging which I have done fungal swabs, which my packaging room is nothing remotely optimum.

Some guidance would be great!

what (other than yeast/mold) would be your biggest concern?  Since your system is closed and product is dry, can i safely assume that when it does (if it does) get wet cleaned, salmonella may be a concern if there is any water left prior to reassembly?

Is your system a completely closed loop to finished package?

A little more detail please

My facility is a complete closed looped system.  Raw materials include hydrogen cyanide, formaldehyde, sulfuric acid, ammonia, and sodium hydroxide.  On the operations side, no detergents used just hot well water that the temperature gets to 160 degrees.  Packaging side: product is gravity feed to 50lb bags then heat sealed, we also use supersacks on a separate line.  Once again no detergent cleaning simply air and sweep.

ok, so now you need a risk assessment to determine what, if any specific organisms may be present in your process--I'm gathering from your ingredient list the answer is none so long as the equipment is fully dried

Once you have determined what your targeting, you then decide how often to swab--it can be as low as once/year--again the risk assessment will help you make that decision

As long as you can justify your reasoning with sound info you should be able to satisfy the requirement
