Food Safety Culture Newsletter Ideas

We are starting to make a concerted effort on improving food safety culture. Our employee's understand food safety and their responsibilities and we have seen huge improvements over the years with empowering them to shut down the line when the see issues, etc. We have come a long way, but are now focusing more on recognition and communication. We will be implementing a FS employee of the Quarter and of the Year in the next month and also want to start a newsletter - either quarterly, or every 2 months.

Does anyone utilize a newsletter? If so - what sort of information do you include? My goal is to make it fun and personable - but also informative. Intending to include games (with prizes) but trying to layout a set list of 'articles'. Some idea's are a letter from the plant manager, topics from each dept head (maintenance, sanitation, production, transport), FS corner (tips, updates on whats happening in the company and in industry), employee spotlight (mgr introductions, then supervisors, then who knows), employee/department recognition, crosswords/puzzles/contests, etc.

Other ideas? Any clever names or topic titles that are FS oriented?

Thanks!

That's very good to hear!  A considerable effort to get the results you have I'm sure.

I think including case studies of someone in the food industry who made a boo-boo and what went wrong and how it could have been avoided would tangible for people.  The more well known the brand the better for it as it is something they can relate to.

You may want to consider doing a semi-annual food safety / quality culture survey with your employees and put the results in the newsletter.  It can help to assess current state and the progress you've made.

For a name I'd relate it to your company's name, or brand, or the products you produce.
