Hello Andrew, there probably is no 'best' way as it's not really a one size fits all. Your first step is going to be to review any third party standards that you are beholden to, as that will give you a baseline of what's 'required' in your facility. If you let us know in here, we can probably get some people familiar with that standard to give you suggestions based off what works for them.

To give you an example, in my facility we write the date in sharpie on the temp repair or on a toe tag, take a picture of that and upload it to a PDMS database that tracks our PM's/RO/Temp repairs. On that PDMS there is a specific check off that it's a temp repair, and the maintenance manager can assign a date when he expects the permanent repair to be completed.

But what is critical to note, 'write the date in sharpie on the temp repair or on a toe tag' introduces a FM hazard (toe tag) that might not be ok for some higher risk facilities. That's why there's not really a 'best' way.

Thank you ,Tim. We are actually a non-food contact product manufacturer but our customers are pushing for us to become GFSI certified. So we are currently in the process of trying to get certified under SQF Manufacture of Packaging Edition 9. We are treating our product contact surfaces as if they were food contact surfaces. I think toe tags could be an option for us as long they are outside of guarding and not above the product line. I like the idea of the sharpie.
