Cleaning the inside of processing equipment
Hi all, I am looking for the chemicals or service you use to clean the inside of your processing equipment. It is a closed system like a beer brewing tank or milk processing. Thank you so much! Elena
Most liquid processing systems will use some sort of CIP (Clean in Place) system - this typically circulates a series of chemicals and water rinse cycles, although the specifics will depend on exactly what you're cleaning. These range from small portable setups through to fairly substantial computer-controlled systems built into the factory/equipment.
What size of tanks / line are you trying to clean?
As for chemicals, I'd suggest having a talk with some potential suppliers - generally they're very happy to provide suggestions on both chemicals and parameters (concentrations, contact times, temperatures) and in some cases will even help with validating the cleaning process if you buy their products.
As you're in the US I'm not sure who to suggest, but there are plenty of forum members on your side of the Atlantic, so I'm sure you'll get some suggestions from them on potential suppliers.
depending on your water hardness, you may also need to circulate an caustic wash from time to time to remove scale
It's best to reach out to the chemical company directly, as alot depends on your particular needs. But generally speaking, this would be a low foam cleaning agent meant specifically for CIP processes
