Requirements to consider if we are packing combo pack of two different products
Hello! We are currently looking into pairing our frozen meat product with a packet of sauce. FYI, the sauce will be manufactured by our supplier and will be packed with our product as a combo pack. The sauce itself will have their own traceability and labelling information from our supplier.
Since we are going to sell them as a combo pack as our product, in terms of food safety requirements such as traceability, labelling, etc, are there specifically things that we should consider and take note of?
Hello,
I'd consider ensuring the supplier of your sauce sachet is fully approved by yourself, ensure they have satisfactory 3rd party certification - e.g. a good graded GFSI certification. You could also consider auditing the site yourself. Trace wise ensure they're able to trace your sauce sachet back to the ingredients - I'd get them to conduct a trace test and ensure you're happy with the results.
Labelling - If the sauce sachet has any allergens I'd suggest printing these on the sachet itself along with the name - however the main pack label should contain all the ingredients of the sauce e.g. Meat 90% (xxxx), Sauce sachet 10% (Contains xxxxxxx) etc.
I'd ensure you have food contact certificates for the sachet and also check for any C.bot risk within the sauce - ensure pH covers this and you're micro is fine - check your Shelf life matches the overall product shelf life.

Presumably implies all the aspects that go with this Standard ?
This is really no different than any other meat product containing added ingredients from another supplier. The difference is that this 'ingredient' stands out in the final package. LILDANNY50 provides good advice on basic supplier approval.
